CMA Family Camp: Special Speaker
Leo is a native of Indonesia. He is from the Toraja tribe which
known for being a supplier for Starbucks coffee, but was born and
raised among the aboriginal tribes of Irian Jaya/Papua. Leo grew
up in a strong Christian home. His parents were public school
teachers, but also played an active part in supporting evangelism
and missionaries in the area. At the age of 16, he committed his life
to full-time service for reaching young people for Christ.
In 1991, Leo graduated from the Jaffray Bible College in Makassar
affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. After graduation,
he continued in the youth ministry that he started during his college
internship in the region of East Kalimantan. During this time, he
began the process that eventually led him to the MA program at
Wheaton College Graduate School. After finishing his Masters in
Educational Ministries, he returned to East Kalimantan from
1996-2006 to teach in the youth ministry program at the Tenggarong
Bible College (also affliated with C&MA). Besides his teaching
duties, Leo also served as head of the youth ministry program
(1998-2006) and as national head of youth ministry for the
Indonesian C&MA (2001-2006).
Currently, Leo is in the States with his wife, Stephanie,
and their two daughters, Nathalie (3 yrs) and Naomi
(15 months). They also have a foster daughter, Misna
(17 yrs), who is completing high school in Papua,
Indonesia. They are preparing for Leo's entry into the
PhD program at Biola University 's School of
Intercultural Studies in Fall 2008. They are also active
in ministry at local Indonesian churches in Southern
California.
